KIWI PERFORMANCE HORSES
REINING TRAINING, LESSONS
AND WESTERN SHOWING.
" Where Reining Horses Reign. "
Welcome to Kiwi Performance Horses.
She is from New Zealand, where she grew up on the family farm and have been riding horses since she was 5.
In New Zealand grew up riding in NZ Pony Club before she started to train and show both English and Western horses winning a number of trophies and awards in Halter, Pleasure, Western and English classes, and Dressage. She held a NZ Western Performance Judges card that covered all Western breeds in New Zealand. She was also invited to become a Dressage judge, but left for the USA before completing.
She attended lessons with the great NZ er, Locke Richards, who had coached the USA Equestrian Team to learn the finer points of Dressage Training.
She ran a leather business in N.Z, repairing and making english saddlery, and traveled to Australia to learn the art of building Western saddles from Robin Yates. She has won several awards for my leather work and saddles.
She also traveled to Australia to work with reining trainer Rick Tranter, and became totally hooked on western training. While in Australia Lilly attended a number of natural horsemanship clinics.
One of Lilly's first jobs upon arriving in the US was for Gary and Kelley Roberts of Roberts Ranch Performance Horses in California, training all-round horses, and showing for a year. She went on to work 2 yrs for Tommy Sheets Show Horses, IN, learning pleasure, trail, western riding, and English all-around horses, teaching youth and non-pro, showing , qualifying horses for the Quarter Horse Congress and World shows, showing and gaining several all-around trophies.
After 6 months with Dana Hokana in CA, working with Pleasure horses, Lilly got the bug for reining horses after watching Craig Schmersal and Todd Crawford work their Reiners, so jumped at the chance to work for Craig Schmersal when the opportunity arose. After 2.5 yrs Lilly then travelled to TX, and worked 3.5 years for Todd Sommers, 2 .5 yrs for Tom and Mandy McCutcheon and Craig Johnson.
Working with these great trainers was a very inspiring experience. The more time you spend learning from trainers like them, you realize hhow much you must never stop learning and stay open minded.
Lilly loves working with horses, both from the ground or the saddle. Strives to always learn more about making them a better athlete. She enjoys teaching both children, non-pro's, advanced and Show riders. Her students have gone on to be very, very successful gaining numerous Buckles, Hi Point Awards, World and Congress Championships under her guidance.
Studied and gained my USA Veterinary Assistant Diploma while working with Todd Sommers..
She's been told she is very much a perfectionist and a very hard worker – something she got from my Dad ( Allen ).
Lilly has fed horses, cleaned stalls, carried out vet care including giving medications, supplements and shots, helped in breeding barns, worked in the round-pen, handled / halter-broke babies, worked young and old horses along with studs, warmed up horses, show prep for trainers and owners, worked as an assistant trainer, given lessons, worked as barn manager.
In addition, she's often been called a Jack-of-all-trades, as she has been driving tractors, hauling trailers, dragging arenas and mowing lawns.
She really doesn't mind getting my hands dirty.
The last thing you do your horse is first thing that your horse will remember tomorrow.
